Huizhou Airport
Huizhou Airport is located in Pingtan Town, Huiyang District, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. It is about 21 kilometers from the city center and is an airport for dual military and civil use. Huizhou Airport has a 4C runway which is 2 400 meters long and 48 meters wide; and has a terminal covering an area of about 5 000 square meters and a cargo station more than 2 000 square meters. It is equipped with one-way CAT-I instrument landing system, approach lighting system, VOR, DME and SSR, and is capable of launching medium and long-haul air routes.
Huizhou Airport has been experiencing smooth operation and rapid development since its operation in February, 2015, and handled 370 000 passengers, 1 631 tons of cargo and mail, and 3 430 movements in its first year of operation, ranking the first in terms of passengers, cargo and mail turnover in the first year of operation among all of the over 80 civil or dual military and civil-use airports (exclusive relocated airports) newly opened in China during the period of 2006 to 2016. In 2016, during the first full year of operation, the airport handled 550 000 passengers, 3 723 tons of cargo and mail, and 5 232 movements, up by 48%, 128% and 53% respectively over the previous year. In 2016, Huizhou Airport ranked No. 101 in terms of the number of passengers handled and 76th regarding cargo and mail turnover, among all of the 219 civil airports in China.
Currently, the airport has put into operation a total of 13 routes connecting 13 points in China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, all of which are either airports handling more than 10 million passengers per year or hub airports. A total of 8 airlines are operating at the airport, including Air China, Juneyao Air, Kunming Airlines and Chongqing Airlines, providing 81 flights each week.
Huizhou Airport plans to handle more than 10 thousand aircraft movements, over 1.2 million passengers and 10 thousand tons of cargo and mail by 2020. So far, reconstruction and expansion projects have been launched, with the reconstruction of the existing terminal being basically completed.
