Baiyun Airport
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is one of the three designated international aviation hubs in China, and also an important international aviation hub serving the national "Belt and Road" initiative and the "Silk Road in the Air" initiative. Over the years, thanks to the strong support from the governments at various levels, GBIA continued to improve its hardware facilities, thus achieving continuous progress in the efforts to turn GBIA into an international aviation hub.
In recent years, GBIA has achieved remarkable results in promoting the construction of an international aviation hub.
In terms of traffic, GBIA handled 59.78 million passengers and 1.65 million tons of cargo and mail in 2016, capable of attracting the in-flow of passengers, freight, capital and information.
In terms of passenger composition, international (regional) passengers handled in 2016 reached 13.58 million, accounting for 22.7% of the total passenger traffic, and the annual volume of international transfer passengers reached 6.07 million, showing an obvious improvement in passenger configuration optimization.
In terms of international operation and connectivity, there are more than 70 airlines operating at GBIA, including nearly 50 foreign airlines; and GBIA operates a total of more than 270 routes, among which the international routes have connected GBIA with more than 85 international and regional points in Asia, Oceania, Europe, North America and Africa.
In 2016, GBIA stepped up its development of international routes, by adding and restoring 27 international routes, as well as adding 13 destinations for passenger transport. The Airport maintained a good momentum of development in terms of its international operation. In particular, by working together with China Southern Airlines, GBIA focused on its "Canton Route" initiative and the development of other transfer-oriented products, solidifying GBIA’s role as the No. 1 hub connecting China with countries in Southeast Asia and Australia.
In 2013, GBIA adopted the policy of 24 hour direct transit and 72 hour visa-free transit, creating favorable conditions for the expansion of international business.
